In
a bid to strengthen education ties between India and Australia, a scholarship has been announced for Indian school
teachers looking to their pedagogy level. The University of Adelaide is
offering 'Ashok Khurana University of Adelaide Scholarship' to Indian school
teachers with at least five years of experience. The $25, 000 worth of
one-year postgraduate scholarship will allow successful candidates to complete
Master of Education at the Australian university.
Dr
Ashok Khurana is a former staff member of the University of Adelaide and has
enjoyed a highly successful career as a petroleum engineer. The scholarship
celebrates his efforts to give something back to both the Indian and Australian
education system.
"The
one-year course will be specifically designed according to the needs and field
of expertise as desired by the teacher," said Khurana.Hailing Khurana's
contribution in setting up of the scholarship, South Australia Premier Jay
Weatherill emphasised the "existing ties between the two countries in the
field of education."
Prof
Pascale Quester, Vice President, University of Adelaide, said "The two
countries are working together to reduce widening gap between the skills
shortage in the Indian market arising out of the large amount of vacancies of
teachers in India. This initiative is a step towards that."
The
scholarship will be effective from next year and is open to all school
teachers in India. The last date of submission is December 14th, 2012.
